Sometimes, we need to let go of what we thought our life should look like and embrace the reality of what it is.

I know that’s rough to hear, but honestly, you can’t go back. And existing in “I wish, I would have…” is a rotten space to occupy. All you can do is move forward, making new decisions with the wisdom you’ve gained.

This space might not be as bad as you think it is. It's in this space between here and there where we grow the most. It's where we are finally willing to leave behind what no longer serves us. It's a sacred space where you can start dreaming again.

I’ve been having these moments of nostalgia lately. They can be as benign as remembering days from long ago as I pull an old muffin tin out of the cupboard. These moments bring fond memories of baking muffins with my daughters when they were little.

More often, though, the nostalgia is complex, taking me to places of regret for giving up too much for what we thought would be an adventure. It turned out instead to be a nightmare, and although it is over, I can’t get back the things we once had.

Yes, we grew, but did it have to be so painful?
